The programme consists of current research on all the cultures of the Mediterranean region and all historical periods. There is an emphasis on reading ancient texts in their language of origin and discussing possible interpretations. The programme is unique in the Netherlands and has been ranked 10th in the 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

A bachelor’s degree in a field related to the specialisation. Specialisation-specific knowledge is also required.
