The North American Studies programme takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of the United States, with a particular emphasis on examining key aspects of American history, culture, and literature, from a historical perspective. It offers the possibility of researching large-scale or more specific topics in the history, literature or culture of the U.S. While the programme focuses on the U.S., you will also explore the role the U.S. plays in the region and in the world.
Graduates find employment in fields that require general academic training and skills for which an extensive knowledge of U.S. history, politics, or culture is required. Career options include teaching, journalism, politics, government, publishing, translation and research.
