From a young age, my fascination with geography and history led me to pursue a bachelor’s programme in International Relations in my hometown of Madrid. After working for two years post-graduation, I realised my true calling was to specialise in defense and security. In today’s world, expertise in these areas is crucial, and I was determined to build a career that contributes to global safety.

A funny coincidence occurred when I discovered that my neighbour had just graduated from a master's programme in that field at Leiden University. His enthusiastic recounting of the experience, particularly the valuable guest lectures, solidified my decision to pursue the same programme. Now, I can personally attest to the excellence of these lectures. For instance, listening to Professor David Gioe, a former intelligence officer with the FBI and CIA, was nothing short of inspiring. The programme has exceeded my high expectations. Many lecturers are former practitioners who share their firsthand experiences, making the learning process incredibly engaging. And, instead of writing a traditional thesis, we build a portfolio, which is highly attractive to future employers. Once I graduate, I would really like to focus on infrastructure security,  such as ports, airports, and railways.
