In Linguistics you study all aspects of language. You compare languages, analyse nearly extinct languages, and learn about the sounds, rules, and structure of language.
In the second year, you choose one of four specialisations, three of which are entirely taught in English: Descriptive Linguistics, Language & Cognition, and Comparative Indo-European Linguistics. The fourth specialisation is taught partially in Dutch: Language in Use. Some of these specialisations include learning unique languages, such as Hittite or Old Norse. This allows you to compare different languages with each other. You are introduced to various approaches to communication, while also learning to make cross-connections between them. These skills will be highly valuable after graduation in roles such as consultant, linguist, language researcher, or editor at a publishing house.
